Dr. Kirchoff received a baccalaureate degree in General Studies with Distinction and class honors from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1975, his master's degree in Biology from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1977, and his doctoral degree in Botany from Duke University in 1981. He came to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as an assistant professor of Biology in 1986, was promoted to associate professor in 1991, and to full professor in 2011. Dr. Kirchoff's research is focused primarily on plant evolution from a structural and developmental standpoint. He has served as visiting scholar and visiting scientist for multiple higher education institutions from all around the world, consulted on research projects, taught, and received multiple awards for his work.
