Dr. Jay Poole was awarded his Associates degree in Arts, Liberal Studies, from Davidson County Community College in 1982, Bachelor of Arts, Psychology, from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1984, his Masters of Social Work in 1999, and his Doctor of Philosophy, Curriculum and Teaching with Specialization in Cultural Studies, in 2009. Dr. Poole has taught at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as an assistant professor since 2010, but has held other positions including lecturer, adjunct faculty, and visiting professor since 2001.
