Lauren Denney is a second year Master's student studying with Dr. Kelly Burke and will be graduating in
May with a Master's in clarinet performance. Originally from Marietta, GA, Ms. Denney attended
Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN where she received her Bachelor of Music in Clarinet performance,
Cum Laude. Ms. Denney's conducting teachers have included Emelyne Bingham, Robin Fountain, Dr.
John Locke, and Robert Gutter. This past summer, Ms. Denney attended the University of South Carolina
Conductor's Institute for four weeks where she performed in master classes with Peter Jaffe, Donald
Portnoy, Libby Larson, and Paul Vermel. Ms. Denney is currently the principal E-flat clarinetist in the
University Symphony Orchestra and the Wind Ensemble, and conducts the University Clarinet Choir.
David Bryant is currently completing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at UNCG. He holds the position of
Second Bassoon with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Bryant holds a Bachelor of Music degree
from The Ohio State University and a Master of Arts from the University of Iowa. He has studied bassoon
with Michael Burns, Benjamin Coelho, Charles Ullery, and Christopher Weait.
Bryan Fox is currently a junior earning his degree in bassoon performance studying with Dr. Michael
Burns. He has performed with the University Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic
Band, and the North Carolina and Greensboro Symphony Orchestras. He is also a member of Mu Phi
Epsilon and the International Double Reed Society. After graduation, Mr. Fox plans on continuing his
performance studies at the graduate level.
Saxophonist Eric Gargrave is currently pursuing a DMA degree from the University of North Carolina-
Greensboro, where he is a student of Dr. Steven Stusek. Prior to UNCG, Eric was on the faculties of
Southeast Missouri State University, the University of Missouri-Columbia, and Indiana University. His
solo debut in 1991 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in Glazounov’s Concerto received rave reviews
from the Chicago Tribune. As a performer and clinician Eric has traveled through the eastern United
States, Belgium, Germany, and Australia, and recently appeared in recital as a guest of the St. Louis Artist
Presentation Society. Eric is married to oboist Ann-Renee Gargrave.
Stacy Wilson is a native of Burlington, North Carolina. She is currently working on a Bachelor’s degree in
saxophone performance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she is the principal
saxophonist with the UNCG Wind Ensemble and plays in the UNCG Jazz Ensemble. As a freshman, she
played lead alto saxophone in the UNCG Jazz Band. She has performed with the UNCG Symphony
Orchestra, and has appeared with numerous artists such as Otis Murphy, Dick Oatts, Robbie Smith and
Jane Bunnett. Ms. Wilson is currently the saxophone instructor at Music and Arts in Burlington. She has
distinguished herself academically by making the Dean’s List and the Chancellor’s list for five consecutive
semesters at UNCG.
Reneé Janette Sokol is a mezzo- soprano from Raleigh, NC. She is currently maintains a grade point
average of 4.0 as a DMA student in Vocal Performance at UNC-G. A versatile singer as well as an
accomplished entertainer/songwriter, she has more than a 100 original songs to her credit. She is a veteran
performer recently seen in Cavalleria Rusticana, Orpheus in the Underworld, Amahl and the Night
Visitors, The Consul, and The Wise Women here at UNC-G. Musical theatre is no stranger to Reneé, and
favorite roles such as "Maria" in The Sound of Music, the title role in Evita and the "Narrator" in Joseph
and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat add colorful experience to her operatic career. She toured the US
in 1988-89 giving concerts with various professional ensembles in New York, Florida, Virginia, Louisiana,
Mississippi, North Carolina and New Mexico as soloist in recitals and performances of Handel's Messiah,
Rossini's Petite Messe Solenelle, and Mendelssohn's Elijah. She is a recognized National Anthem Soloist
for the semi-professional hockey team Mississippi Seawolves, and for various Air Force bases across the
country. Inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda (Tau Chapter) in 2001 as a lifetime member and listed in Who's
Who in Music, Ms. Sokol plans to perform and teach after graduation.
Korean-born pianist Sun-Hee Kim studied music at the Busan Art High School and completed her
Bachelor of Music degree at the Busan National University in 2000. She began her Master of Music degree
in January, 2001, and studies with Dr. George Kiorpes. She performed her graduate recital just last week,
and expects to complete all aspects of her degree in Spring, 2003.
Currently a senior at UNCG, Logan Strawn is a student of Scott Rawls. He was the first-place winner of
the American String Teachers’ Association/National School Orchestra Association Competition last year in
North Carolina. strawn has been invited to participate in a variety of festivals including the New Arts
Festival in Fort Myers, Florida, the Brevard Music Festival, the 27th International Viola Congress in
Ontario, Canada, the Bowdoin Music Festival in Maine, and most recently, the Domaine Forget Music and
Dance Academy in Quebec. He also plays with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra and plans to use the
upcoming year to prepare for graduate school.
