Mary Eppes Turner (1921- ) graduated in 1942 with a degree in primary education from Woman's College of the University of North Carolina, now The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). In 1969, she received a Master in Education from UNCG. Turner describes her first impressions of the college; campus life, including "closed study," dances, dating, intramural sports, and rules and regulations; roller skating to downtown Greensboro; and the friendships made on campus. She discusses her professors, her admiration for Dean Harriet Elliott, and the impact of having thousands of soldiers stationed in town at the Overseas Replacement Depot (ORD) during World War II. Turner also talks about teaching first grade for one year, raising a family, returning to UNCG for her master's degree, and her career as a guidance counselor at Smith and Dudley High Schools in Greensboro, North Carolina.
