Lauretta Webster Wilkin served in the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps (WAAC) and the Women's Army Corps (WAC) during World War II. She completed basic training at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, in early 1943 and served in the drafting department at the Army Port of Los Angeles in Wilmington, California, from May 1943 to 1945. She married George Wilkin in late 1944. |

Letters to her family in West Covington, Kentucky, and several photographs document Lauretta Webster Wilkin's service in the WAAC and WAC during World War II. Subjects include basic training; WAAC parades; uniforms and equipment; her work in the army's drafting department; the transition from the WAAC to the WAC in 1943; war news; family affairs; and social life and recreation, including her softball team, parties, visits with friends, and her courtship and marriage to George Wilkin. Photographs are of individual and groups of WACs in uniform. |
