Des Moines, Iowa June 9, 19SF IjE- SURVEY SHOWS MANY WACS WANT OFF-DUTY COOKING CLASS That the woman-soldier is picture- minded and still domestic is evidenced by the Educational Interest Survey taken by the I & E Office this week in Orientation classes of assigned personnel.""In my first stack of papers I've checked," Capt. Reida Longanecker said Tuesday, "most demands are for Photography and Fancy Baking and Cooking classes, personnel hasn't stated definitely what type of photography they want to learn, but there is a big demand for that type of study." Capt. Longanecker still has a lot of papers to check and she will no doubt find other subjects of interest to the Wacs. The final tabulation will be concluded at the first of next week. Some of the statements listed on the Educational Interest Survey to be i checked were: I want to prepare myself for a particular civilian job. I want to review the basic principles in a certain subject. I want to continue my education which was interrupted when I came into the Anay. I want to complete requirements for a high school diploma or a college degree, I want to learn more about a hobby. A few of the subjects offered were: Photography, American Literature, American History, Modern News Reporting, Cooking, and Baking, Clothing and Textiles, Dietetics and Advertising. Hobby Clubs suggested were; Legal, Saleswomen ' s , Office Managers' " Sketching and painting. Farmers' and Home Making Clubs, Pfc. Kenward, will be presented at Theater #1, Wednesday evening, June 13, at 7:00 Hi. Play is directed by Pfc. Marion Junkin of Special Service Office, who also has a part in one of the leads. This play has been hailed as a feminine "Journey1s End" and tells the story of courageous nurses on Bataan. The cast is composed entirely of women and scene takes place in a dugout with characters subjected to gunfire. Cast of characters ineludet Pfc, Lorna Bratlie as Doc Marsh; Sgt. Claudine Dixon, as Smittyj Sgt. Isabel Stilley as Flo Harri3;Pfc. Marion Junkin as Pat Conlinj Cpl. Genevieve Willcox as Grace Lambert; Sgt. Norma Harris as Helen Domoret; Sgt. Alice Walker as Nydia Joyce; Pvt. Mary L. Jones as Susan West; Sgt. Mary Grsne as Andra West; pvt. Marion von Kirt- ley as Constance Marks, and Pvt.Elizabeth Elliott as Stephaqy Polden. Pfc. Junkin was a student of the Goodman Theater in Chicago, 111." and also directed plays there. She played for two years in summer stock shows in East Hampton, Long Island, She was with the first group of players who toured for USO Camp Shows, doing stage-managing and acting. Sgt. Dixon has played in several Post plays, MCing in the Soldier's Show last fall. Sgt. Stilley 1b well known as the Post's vocal soloist and Pvt. Marion von KIrtley, a n e w- comer at PRO, has acted in little theaters in Hollywood besides having done a great deal of script writing there. Remember 7:00 Hi Wednesday night, June 13. Admission is free. Those attending are urged to come early, to avoid the rush.
