docks

Oil
of
New
York.

joined
the
WAVES
in
March
1944
. She
completed
basic
training
and then
cooks
and
bakers
school
at
Hunter
College
in
New
York
.
After
graduating
cooks
and
bakers
school
on
29
September
1944
, she was
sent
to the
Anacostia
Naval
Station
in
Washington
,
D.C
. She
started
as a
scullery
maid
, but
later
became
a
cook
. She was
discharged
from the
WAVES
on
20
December
1945
,
shortly
after
her
marriage
to
Ray
Hickcox
.
The
Hickcoxs
settled
in
Schenectady
,
New
York
,
after
Ray
Hickcox
left
the
army
in
June
1946
.
Betty
Hickcox
taught
sewing
for
several
years
and
worked
briefly
for a
caterer
. She
left
New
York
in
1990
,
eventually
settling
in
Charlotte
,
N.C
.
