Item description	A formal group photo upon the graduation of the Cooks and Bakers Class XI at the U.S. Naval Training Station in Bronx, New York on September 29, 1944. Elizabeth C. Hickcox is in the center of the back row. The women pictured are: Alice Reed, Glenda Ham, Lother, Nancy Roode, Higdaul, Ranck, Willis, Eden Jordan, Mamie Davis, Pinson, Catonia, Martha Creely, Helen Boyle; Gladys Horness, Helen Cheatham, Patricia McKagney, Wise, Waddups, Ruby Jewell, Charlotte Murphy, Simpson, and Cummins.
Veteran's name	Hickcox, Elizabeth C. Jordan
Veteran's biography	Elizabeth Hickcox (b. 1923?) of Glassboro, New Jersey, served in the U.S. Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) from March 1944 to December 1945 . Elizabeth "Betty" Jordan Hickcox (b. 1923?) was born in Woodstown, New Jersey, and grew up in Glassboro, New Jersey. After graduating from high school in 1941, she worked at a sewing factory, a bottle cap factory, and a department store before taking a job on the docks with Standard Oil of New York." Hickcox joined the WAVES in March 1944. She completed basic training and then cooks and bakers school at Hunter College in New York. After graduating cooks and bakers school on 29 September 1944, she was sent to the Anacostia Naval Station in Washington, D.C. She started as a scullery maid, but later became a cook. She was discharged from the WAVES on 20 December 1945, shortly after her marriage to Ray Hickcox . The Hickcoxs settled in Schenectady, New York, after Ray Hickcox left the army in June 1946. Betty Hickcox taught sewing for several years and worked briefly for a caterer. She left New York in 1990, eventually settling in Charlotte, N.C.
