Carol
Nachtrab
was
born
in
Napoleon
,
Ohio
, in
June
of
1941
.
After
graduating
from
Napoleon
High
School
in
1959
, she
enrolled
in
nurses
'
training
at
Toledo
Hospital
School
of
Nursing
in
Toledo
,
Ohio
.
After
a
year
, she was
removed
from the
program
. She
completed
her
studies
at
Lima
Memorial
Hospital
School
of
Nursing
in
Lima
,
Ohio
. Her
first
nursing
job
was at
Riverside-White
Cross
School
of
Nursing
in
Columbus
,
Ohio
. She
worked
there for
eight
years
on the
medical/surgical
floor
, as the
evening
supervisor
, and
finally
as the
staff
development
coordinator
.
Nachtrab
enlisted
in the
air
force
but
changed
her
mind
when
her
paperwork
was
lost
.
Instead
, in
1970
, she
enlisted
in the
Army
Nurse
Corps
. She
completed
training
at
Fort
Sam
Houston
,
Texas
, and was
stationed
in
Vietnam
at the
67th
evacuation
hospital
in
Qui
Nhon
.
When
her
brother
was
drafted
, she
extended
her
tour
so
he would not have to
serve
there, and was
briefly
stationed
in
Cam
Ranh
Bay
. She was
discharged
from the
Army
Nurse
Corps
in
1972
with the
rank
of
captain
and
returned
to
nursing
in a
civilian
hospital
.
