My dearest Bertin -
I was so sorry to have that accident happen to you. I've been debating calling you, as I wrote, and I now I hear you're in bed, I am afraid to call and get you up. I keep wondering what you are getting to eat, and if Lena and Elton are doing enough so you can get along without going to the hospital. Getting a typewritten letter makes me think you're up some though you may do that in bed. I surely wished I was there to care for you darling. Are you sure you shouldn't be in the hospital? And that the Doctor is doing right by letting you remain at home? You are so sweet and lovable, to have you laid up makes me feel sick, too.
I was afraid, too, Elton or Lena would try to answer - wish I knew what to do, whether to call or not. I have only two more week of ""basic"" - I might get sent out there then so I'd get home week ends.
I intend to see the Company Commander Tuesday eve again and maybe I will know if I'm to be sent home (to RC) at end of basic or wait a week. I really think with me they'd rather get me going before X-mas than hold over, but one never knows. Anyway, once I get there, I'll call or something, so you know. Meantime keep writing here until you hear to the contrary for to miss getting your letters is awful. I love you with all my heart. I'm coming back to you just as clean and good as I left, dear, for I'm all yours and will always be yours. Don't worry for one second that I ever want anyone else or I'll ever be less a lady having been in the service. I've got something to fight for. You my darling! You are sweet, and such a honey. I was thinking today how affectionate you were - your kisses are so sweet, I'd like some now. Save them ALL for me. I'm selfish! I want everything kept for me. May God protect you and keep you safe, and bring us together soon.
