1923
in
Brooklyn
,
New
York
, to
Polish
parents
. She
graduated
from the
Girls
High
School
and then
attended
nursing
school
at
Saint
Catherine’s
Hospital
in
Brooklyn
from
1941
to
1944.
"
Eustice
did
private
duty
nursing
for
several
months
before
joining
the
Army
Nurse
Corps
on
24
May
1945
.
After
completing
basic
training
at
Fort
Dix
,
New
Jersey
, she
became
head
nurse
of
three
wards
in the
orthopedic
unit
at the
Fort
Dix
hospital
.
Eustice
received
overseas
training
at
Fort
Jackson
,
near
Columbia
,
South
Carolina
, and
departed
Fort
Kilmer
,
New
Jersey
,
bound
for
Le
Havre
,
France
, in
February
1946
.
Eustice
served
in the
115th
General
Hospital
(later
the
386th
Station
Hospital)
as
part
of the
occupation
forces
in
Kassel
,
Germany
.
On
14
March
1946
Veronica
Dabrowski
Eustice
married
Russell
Eustice
in
Germany
. She was
discharged
in
May
1946
as a
second
lieutenant
, and
moved
to
Hackensack
,
New
Jersey
, with her
husband
. She
returned
to
nursing
in the
1960s
and
retired
to
North
Carolina
.
