Edna
Andrews
Weston
grew
up
on a
farm
in
Wilkes
County
,
North
Carolina
, and
graduated
from
Wilkesboro
High
School
in
1937
. She
went
to
nurses
training
at
Davis
Hospital
in
Statesville
,
North
Carolina
, from
1939
to
1942
, and then
continued
to
work
there
until
January
1944
,
when
she
joined
the
Navy
Nurse
Corps
.
Weston
received
training
in
Portsmouth
,
Virginia
, for
four
months
,
before
being
transferred
to the
naval
base
in
Charleston
,
South
Carolina
. A
year
later
, in
Weston
was
sent
to
Camp
Lejeune
,
North
Carolina
, to be a
dietitian
for
six
months
. Her
last
duty
station
was in
San
Diego
,
California
,
where
she
became
a
supervisor
in the
Naval
Hospital
.
Weston
was
discharged
in
October
1946
.
For
two
years
,
Weston
worked
at a
veterans
hospital
in
Fayetteville
,
North
Carolina
. She then
married
Carlyle
Weston
,
settled
in
Statesville
, and
returned
to
Davis
Hospital
. She and her
husband
had
three
children
. In
1959
, they
moved
to
Boomer
,
North
Carolina
, and
Weston
took
a
job
at
Blackwater
Hospital
until
retiring
in
1985
.
