Veteran's biography |
Mary J. Hill, was a Union nurse who worked at the Fairfax Seminary Hospital in 1865, during the American Civil War. She married Willis R. Hill, who served as a Sergeant in the Union Army, and had two daughters, (Mary) Josephine Hill and Ella (Ellen) A. Hill. While their parents were away serving their nation, Ella and Josephine were sent to live with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Allen in Clarkston, Michigan. |

Collection summary |
This collection contains eight letters written by Hill and one by her husband Sgt. Willis Hill to their daughters Ella and Josephine. The letters contain information about the life of a Civil War nurse, the feelings of loneliness and sorry at being seperated from her family, and the soliders and staff she knew at the hospital. |
