C, CHAMBER OF COMMERCE JULY. 1959 Number 7 State Dairy Princess Is Chosen in Chamber Contest The State's fourth annual Dairy Princess Contest, held in Greensboro under the sponsorship of the Chamber's Agriculture Division, saw a petite brunette from Rocky Mount take the 1960 crown. After two and a half days of judging, Miss Bonnie Lynn Baker was selected as the new princess from among the 12 contestants. Miss Nancy Lee Gaddy of Hamlet placed second, and Miss Sharon Smith of Albemarle finished third. Activities of the contest, longest ever held in North Carolina, included airplane rides for the contestants, a fashion show, swimming and golf exhibitions, luncheons, and the coronation pageant. Voit Gilmore of Southern Pines, State chairman of June Dairy Month, presented the trophies to the winners. The new princess was crowned by Miss Glenda Sue Honey of Albemarle, the 1959 dairy princess. William J. Reynolds of Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company, was chairman of the contest, which was co-sponsored by the North Carolina Dairy Industry. Assisting him were the following chairmen: Emmett J. Dugan, coronation pageant; Mrs. Emmet D. Atkins, fashion show; Edward H. Alexander, transportation; Mrs. Edith Baxter and Mrs. Marietta Mason, menus and special arrangements; Miss Lib Carnegie, chaperone entertainment; and Kenneth V. Brugh, Jr. special, activities. Industrial Firm Buys Land For New Plant Here AMP, Inc., a machine firm whose move to Greensboro was announced at the Chamber's annual meeting, has purchased a 30-acre tract for the erection of a plant on the north side of Holt's Chapel Road. (Continued on Page 2) Celebration to Become Annual Observance Greensboro's first city-wide Fourth of July celebration in about 25 years was such a success a couple weeks ago that it will become an annual observance. Held under the sponsorship of the Chamber's Recreation Committee with Roy Griffin as chairman, the celebration attracted between 10,000 and 15,000 spectators and participators to the Country Park.
