Jeanne Tannenbaum was born in Alexandria, Louisiana, but moved to Greensboro, North Carolina, when she was four. She describes the integration of her high school during her sophomore year, as well as some of the major events of the Civil Rights Movement. Tannenbaum recounts her undergraduate career at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and graduate career at Duke. Tannenbaum spent much of her adult life away from Greensboro and discusses her experiences with business, race, and communities in New York, Boston, and New Orleans. She also recounts her involvement in civic and community life, including her work with the Rotary Club of Greensboro, the Greensboro Urban Ministry Board, and the Tannenbaum Sternberger Foundation. Tannenbaum discusses the changes in the city, as well as the challenges it faces in the future. She also relates her travels to places such as Peru, Europe, China, Russia, and the Galapagos Islands.
