The Tax Reform Act? Find Out on February 4 Mark February 4 on your calendar. Chamber members are urged to attend a bring-you-up-to-date meeting on the much-publicized Tax Reform Act of 1969, a sweeping law which affects each business and citizen. The meeting, sponsored by the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce and the Piedmont Chapter of the National Association of Accountants, will bew held at Snider Auditorium, Greensboro Public Library, on Wednesday evening (7:30), February 4, with a panel of experts who will cover the various aspects and implications of this legislation. The panelists are William H. Westphal of A. M. Pullen & Company, Robert Lloyd of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co., and Gerald Schultheiss of Strand, Skees, Jones & Company. Chamber members should call the Chamber at 273-8687 to make reservations for this February 4 meeting. Distribution Developers Announce Graybar Plans John R. Larsen, 1969 chairman of the Distribution Development Committee, recently announced that Graybar Electric Company, Inc. has purchased a 3.26 acre sits from the Redevelopment Commission at the corner of West Bessemer Avenue and Grecade Street where the company will build a 30,- 000 square foot distribution center. Graybar is the largest independent distributor of electrical products in the country and is the largest company in the world owned entirely by its employees. The Distribution Development Division has been working with Graybar since April 1966 when market studies were prepared for the company. Chamber Budget Needs Tagged "Urgent for Greensboro" The Greensboro Chamber Board of Directors has unanimously approved a $47,000 increase in the Chamber's budget. The record budget, according to the board, is authorized to cover urgent community and Chamber needs. As one director put it, "When we say 'urgent,' we mean 'urgent.' All of us in Greensboro have to get on the stick, or we'll get caught in left field." Principal objectives of the Chamber's 1970 Program of Work are "a better selling job of Greensboro," using the most productive community marketing techniques; greater Chamber involvement in community planning "to see that (Continued on Page 2) Greensboro business JANUARY 1970 cm PORT This is the first issue of the Action Report — a monthly supplement to Greensboro Business. This Newsletter includes Action Reports from the various Chamber divisions and the board of directors. Public Relations Division Chairman Douglas Tice urges Chambermen to look for meeting announcements and other communications, previously mailed separately, in this monthly four-page Newsletter. The Public Relations Division suggests that committees with chamber program news should keep Action Report informed so that Action Report can do a better job of keeping members informed. ^g ^jfibM ^M. The Housing Challenge "One of the primary challenges facing Greensboro, and all of America, today is housing. If action is not taken soon, housing conditions will worsen, costs will soar, and all related problems will be more difficult to solve. Private citizens and community organizations in Greensboro have waited long enough to take the giant step necessary to bring about a solution to this problem. It is a time for decision.
