Description
During his three days in Paris, Casals had not one minute's rest; he didn't even touch his cello. Horszowski was with him during the day of the 4th, before leaving for Italy that evening. Mangeot, Lemberg and Larapdie came to visit. He had many errands to do. He had a doctor make a house call because he was so exhausted. The doctor diagnosed an illness and prescribed a treatment. The concerts in outlying areas have been cancelled, and only those in London on the 7t h and the 11th remain. On the 12th he will be back in Paris, where he will see the doctor again. He is concerned that he will be too ill to travel on the 18th. It is just two months since Metcalfe left London. Metcalfe has written asking whether they might be married on April 16th, but he says that the decision should be made on the basis of the progress of his recovery. "I have received congratulations from my queen, Marie Christine, on my legion d'honneur; she doesn't yet know about my new decoration from Romania."
