Description
Salutation: Dear Mademoiselle (Casals addressing Metcalfe as "vous"). Casals was visiting his friend Mrs. Farqhuar, and they wanted to go to hear Susan sing that afternoon, but poor weather made Mrs. Farqhuar change her mind. He has been sad since Metcalfe went home, as a result of a conversation during a trip. He expresses his pleasure at having made her and her sister's acquaintance "and the joy of meeting a soul which it seems to me is capable of understanding and appreciating - by which I might - perhaps - be understood." He will go by train to visit her the following day. Signed: Pablo Casals.
