Object narrative
Publicity flier for the comedy "7-20-8" or "Casting the Boomerang" by Augustin Daly's company in late 1883, to be used while on tour in various cities. The front of the flier features several color images from the play on a metallic gold background. The back of the flier describes the enjoyment audiences have received from watching the play and quotes from New York newspapers praising the production. The play was a farce about a man named Courtney Corliss who sees a painting of a beautiful woman with her dog, falls in love, and tries to find her in real life. Meanwhile, a wealthy man from England is also searching for her, sending an Italian opera impresario to do his searching for him. The men find the young lady and she and Corliss fall in love, leaving the wealthy man alone. Meanwhile, the girl's father and mother get caught up in a Shakespeare plagiarism scandal. All is finally resolved when the scandal is averted and the Englishman is discovered to have only wanted to buy the dog. The production starred Augustin Dalys leading lady Ada Rehan as Flos, the beautiful girl in the painting, and John Drew as Courtney Corliss. The play was a huge success on tour, reinvigorating Daly's career and saving his second troupe from bankruptcy. At one time he had two different troupes out touring this production as it was such a big moneymaker. Daly adapted and directed the play. It was derived from Schoenthan's "Die Schwabenstreich." Adas brother Arthur was company manager of the touring production.
