Object narrative
This program is from the Irving/Terry Lyceum Theatre American Tour of 1895-1896, their fifth tour to the United States. The program is for the entire week of October 14, 1895. It is a multi-page program which depicts the inside of the Tremont Theatre on the front cover. The program is filled with advertising as many American playbills are today. The cast list page states that this is the Third and Last Week but One while in Boston. They state they are performing an adaptation of Casimer Delavigne's play, Louis XI, by Dion Boucicault. The cast list shows Henry Irving in the role of Louis XI, but there is no mention of Ellen Terry having a role, despite her name alongside Irving's in the top billing. The second page of Lyceum credits include a synopsis of scenery, music during intermissions, and stage management credits. The program states that the following week Henry Irving, Miss Ellen Terry, and the London Lyceum Co. will be presenting Faust, Much Ado About Nothing, King Arthur, The Merchant of Venice, and Becket. They would also present a farewell performance consisting of Journeys End in Lovers' Meeting (new.), A Story of Waterloo, Trial Scene from The Merchant of Venice, and Church Scene from Much Ado About Nothing. The Fifth American Tour consisted of cities in the Northeast, Eastern Canada, and Southern cities including Richmond, Charleston, Savannah, Atlanta, New Orleans, and Memphis before heading into the Midwest and cities including St. Louis, Cincinnati, Chicago, and Detroit. According to Lyceum Company stationery the tour lasted from Sept. 1895-May 1896.
