Description
The opening of a new front section of Wesley Long Hospital at 338 N. Elm St. The hospital had started in a former residence with additions gradually added on at the back. Finally, the house was demolished and a new front section was built. The three story addition had a sunroom on the third floor where patients who were well enough could look out on the scene below on North Elm Street. These photos show the lobby, with a large glazed glass window and diamond-shaped tile floors. Many flowers honor the opening. One of the photos shows two nurses in white uniforms in a section of the lobby, one talking to a cashier and another to a woman seated at desk. Wesley Long continued at the North Elm location until the early 1960s, when a caravan of ambulances transported patients to the new Wesley Long on North Elam Avenue, not far from Friendly Avenue.
