PUBLISHED IN THE INTEREST OF VICK MANUFACTURING DIVISION EMPLOYEES Vol. 3 Lillie Leonard Joins Vick's Retired Ranks An early retirement came for Lillie Leonard this month when she relinquished her place on the V & V line to join the honored list of Vick employees who are no longer active. Lillie had compiled a total service ecord of almost 25 years at the time of ner retirement Jan. 31. She lacked only 24 days reaching her anniversary date. General Manager G. C. Eichhorn presented her a gift certificate on behalf of the company at the ceremony held in Milton Street's cafeteria during luncheon. In making the presentation Mr. Eichhorn said, "I can't say she has done the wrong thing, but she is going to 'short-change' Vick by asking for early retirement, and we are the losers." Lillie began work in 1927 as a temporary employee and worked off and on until finally during the 1930's she became a regular employee. Mr. Eichhorn said, "She has been at the heart of things. The VAPORUB line here in Greensboro is the heart of all of the Richardson-Merrell, Inc. Enterprise. More good has come out of this line—in the way of help to the world's people with their colds, and to many in the terms of jobs— than any other place or thing which we have. Think how many jobs the product of this line has created. "It all began on that one line where Lillie has made her contribution." He continued by saying, "1 didn't know as much about Lillie as I should, so i went to her file and saw some mighty nice things written about her there. Here are some of the comments: 'very conscientious and cooperative, well-liked by fellow workers, loyal to the company and corn- Greensboro^NC, February, 1962 No. 6 LILLIE LEONARD accepts the gift certificate presented to her by Division General Manager G. " He commented, "I think that is the way we will continue to think about you as the years come and go and we hope you will come back often." Lillie lost no time in taking advantage of her substantial increase in leisure time. At the time of her retirement she had already planned a two- week trip to Lakeland, Fla., to attend a church convention there. She and her husband, who retired last summer from Duke Power Co., also planned to visit with her two sisters in Miami while they were in that part of the country. Lillie said that she and her husband plan to do quite a bit of traveling, now that they both have the time.
