ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY BUILDING E, WEST SIDE ROW NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE 37240 Telephone: (6IS) 322-2929 February 12, 1980 Dean Eloise Lewis, Ed.D., F.A.A.N. AACN University of N. Carolina Greensboro, NC Dear Ms. Lewis: Dean Sara Archer tells me that she spoke with you recently at the AACN meeting in Washington and that you are definitely planning to accept the invitation of the VUSN Alumni Association to be a presentor at one of the two continuing education sessions scheduled for May 23 during Alumni Weekend at Vanderbilt. I speak for the VUSN Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Alumni Weekend Planning Committee when I say we are delighted. As Prof. Rebecca Culpepper discussed with you previously, your topic will be "The Past and The Future: Through The Looking Glass." I am including a draft of the copy which will be included in a brochure to be mailed to all Vanderbilt School of Nursing alumni prior to Alumni Weekend in order to give you a little better idea of the theme around which to build your talk. We feel that nursing's history, evolution to date and future are areas to which you can certainly do justice; and we are looking forward with much anticipation to your treatment of this very important subject matter. The brochure copy will also give you information on the allotted time for your presentation, as well as additional information on the other special nursing events planned for May 23-24. Ms. Lewis, we sincerely hope that you are planning to be our guest for the entire two days. We will take care of hotel reservations for you as well as your travel expenses if you will let us know what your arrangements are once you have made them. Upon arrival at Nashville Airport you can take a bus to the Holiday Inn Vanderbilt. Since the day gets off to an early start on Friday with your presentation at 8:30, you will most likely want to arrive Thursday evening or night and stay through Saturday afternoon, at least. Further details can be worked out as we go along. Since, because of the increasing pressure of her job, Prof. Culpepper recently chose to relinquish her position as Director of Continuing Education for the School, while retaining her faculty position, she will no longer be your contact in arranging for your visit. Please send any correspondence or questions you have directly to me: Prof. Sue Jones, VUSN Alumni Association President % Dean's Office Vanderbilt University School of Nursing 21st Avenue So.
