The County Hoard of Education met National bank, who is in Texas for, hi* , nere Friday night and Saturday, the principal work before the board being the appointment of the public school fund. The luw this year requires that the boards apportion direct to the dis-tricts and this necessitated a great deal more work for the board than has been the case heretofore. It was decided to give $1.90 per capita to the schools— '.he same as last year, and in addition to set aside reserve funds of ?2,(MK) for building purposes and $2,000 for aiding weak districts in maintaining a four months' term. When the work of ap-portionment began, the advisability of setting aside a reserve fund was shown health. He has recently made grati-fying gains in flesh and strength and there is hope for still further improve-ment in his condition. Cars are now luuuing regularly on the White Oak extension of the stieet railway, a twenty-minute schedule be-ing maintained. The opening of the line to the new mill last Saturday has already afforded hundreds of people an opportunity to see what is being done out there by the Cones,and great is the satisfaction expressed. The Guilford County Medical Society had an interesting meeting at the city ball Monday afternoon. There seemed to be a regular epide-mic of matrimony in Guilford last month, over one hundred licenses having been issued in that period—one-fourth the entire number issued during the entire preceding fiscal year. The County Hoard of Education met National bank, who is in Texas for, hi* , nere Friday night and Saturday, the principal work before the board being the appointment of the public school fund. The luw this year requires that the boards apportion direct to the dis-tricts and this necessitated a great deal more work for the board than has been the case heretofore. It was decided to give $1.90 per capita to the schools— '.he same as last year, and in addition to set aside reserve funds of ?2,(MK) for building purposes and $2,000 for aiding weak districts in maintaining a four months' term. When the work of ap-portionment began, the advisability of setting aside a reserve fund was shown health. He has recently made grati-fying gains in flesh and strength and there is hope for still further improve-ment in his condition. Cars are now luuuing regularly on the White Oak extension of the stieet railway, a twenty-minute schedule be-ing maintained. The opening of the line to the new mill last Saturday has already afforded hundreds of people an opportunity to see what is being done out there by the Cones,and great is the satisfaction expressed.
