Lightning struck the steeple Friday's Rain and Hail Storm. The storm which visited this section last Friday was one of the most severe seen in years, doing considerable dam-age in some localities. The rain fell in torrents for a short while and was ac-companied by deep thunder and vivid lightning. Just before the storm broke the clouds were so heavy as to make it very dark for a few minutes. Before the rain ceased a considerable amount of hail fell. In Greensboro a large number of tele-phones were burned out by the light-ning and several people received elec-trical shocks. Mr. J. H. Rankin, of Allemance, was at Watson's mill when the storm came up, engaged in conver-sation with the miller. Mr. Rankin, his driver and tho miller were all TOBACCO NOTES. Items of Interest to the Grower, the Dealer, and the Manufacturer. MARKET REPORT. Our sales have been light for the past week, yet there has been enough of the weed sold to keepourbuyersand manufacturers busy about all the time handling their purchases. The quality of the offerings has been about in keeping with previous sales for this season and but very few wrap-pers have shown upon thesales. Some splendid working tobacco showed up and went off at good figures. Prices on all grades remain un-changed to a shade better, with a very active market and the buyers eager for the weed. Farmers who were on our market this week have expressed them-selves as being well pleased, aud this MR.
