Dear Mr. Cone:
After searching for almost a year and Interviewing or contacting
some twenty pathologists, we have been fortunate to find a very fine
and well-qualified pathologist who will join our group by January 1972.
Be is Dr. Robert Gay, who is presently Chief of Laboratories at the
U. S. Naval Hospital, Jacksonville, Florida. We would like to call to
your attention our previous understanding concerning a change in our
contract when the fifth pathologist was added to our group, copies of
which are attached. As you know, we have also added in September a
well-qualified microbiologist.
Dr. Hassell and I would like to meet with you and Mr. Bettis at
your earliest convenience to discuss this matter. Since I assume this
decision will have to go to the Board of Trustees for final approval,
perhaps we could schedule our meeting with you on Wednesday, November
24th, prior to the scheduled Trustee meeting.
There are also'three other items which we would like to discuss
with you during our meeting, if time permits. These concern developments in relation to:
1. The proposed affiliation of our School of Medical
Technology with the University of North Carolina
at Greensboro.
2. The need for some remodeling of the laboratory
facilities to accomodate the new pathologist, to
provide for a specimen receipt area in front, etc.;
and the need for additional data processing equipment
to handle the increasing work-load, to eliminate
expensive duplication of effort, and to assure a
continuation of our services to outside hospitals.
3. The status of the personnel budget for 1971-72.
We look forward to meeting with you in the near future.
