HISTORY 1966-1967
Witlh the leadership of Mrs. Rufus R. Hambright as president,
many projects were successfully completed this year. As in the past
"Service to Others" has been the motto for the Auxiliary. One hundred and forty-eight dues-paying members, out of a possible 178,
enthusiastically responded to the call for the work to be done. The
Greensboro Branch was presented the Ursula Wilkinson Award for Community Service last year. This challenge award was used to sponsor
an ice hockey game for our fund raising drive in November. This project raised $1,000 and these funds were donated to the Sick Room Equipment Loan Closet, an agency which loans to any citizen of Guilford
County items such as hospital beds, wheel chairs, crutches etc. necessary for the home care of patients. The committee for this, our outstanding acheivement, was headed by Mrs. A. Jack Tannenbaum who was
ably assisted by Mrs. Norman Scheibling. The clothing drive conducted
throughout the year aided the three non-profit Day Care Centers for
pre-school children in Greensboro. There were approximately seven
hundred pieces of clothing collected and distributed for both boys
and girls. The 8 monthly parties at Umstead Hospital for the enter-
tainmentof mental parients in the Guilford gounty Unit were most
successful. The more than 100 Auxiliary members who participated
found this venture to be very worthwhile and gratifying. The patients
enjoyed the parties and were helped in their prg^ress toward their
recovery and return to their homes. In addition to putting on the
monthly parties many of the Auxiliary members donated trading stamps
which were used to acquire two forty cup coffee makers, two popcorn
poppers, one large b-idge table and a tripod flower planter for which
Mrs. Carroll C. Lupton provided the greerery, three magazine racks,
