revi ew ® THE MOSES H. CONE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA Mrs. Norman, Mr. Chiles, Mr. Cone Named To Trustee Board A/Irs. Norman Mrs. George E. Norman, Jr., Mr. Robert S. Chiles, Sr., and Mr. Benjamin Cone, Jr. have been named to the Board of Trustees at The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. They succeed retiring trustees Mrs. Robert B. Taylor, Mrs. Britt M. Armfield, and Dr. Isaac H. Miller. Mrs. Norman, a Salisbury, North Carolina native, is a graduate of Catawba College in Salisbury. She has been a resident of Greensboro since 1952. She was active for many years in local Parent-Teacher Associations and the Girl Scouts. She has worked with the Mr. Chiles March of Dimes and was President of Friends of the Library at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and was a board member of the Home Economics Foundation, UNC-G. Mrs. Norman served as Treasurer of the Moses Cone Hospital Auxiliary for 13 years. Mr. Chiles is President and Chief Executive Officer of Greensboro National Bank. Originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, he holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from North Carolina Central University, Durham and a Master's Degree from the David McCombs Appointed To Executive Position oversaw the completion of a $12,000,000 construction project which included the relocation of all support services, outpatient departments, critical care departments, and 80-bed patient tower, and renovation of the Obstetrical Department. He established several new programs at the Reidsville hospital, including utilizations of a mobile CT scanning service, formation of a Day Surgery Unit, full-time Anesthesiology coverage (under contract from Moses Cone Hospital), and development of the Maternal-Child Care Service. He has been involved in the selection and installation of an in-house computer system, completion of a long term strategic plan, Mr. Cone Babcock Graduate School of Management of Wake Forest University. He is a former Vice President of Wachovia Bank and Trust Company. Earlier he served as Loan Officer in the Charlotte, North Carolina Regional Office of the Small Business Administration. Active in civic and educational as well as professional and business affairs, Mr. Chiles serves as Treasurer of the Board of Directors of A&T University Foundation, Inc., a member of the Board of Trustees of Bennett College, and is a former member of the Boards of the University of North Carolina-Asheville and North Carolina State University. He is Treasurer of the United Way of Greater development of a hospital marketing plan, and the recruitment of a number of physicians to Reidsville. Commenting on Mr. McCombs appointment, Moses Cone Hospital President Dennis R. Barry said, "We are fortunate to have someone with Dave's ability and experience joining us. As one of our neighbors, he already is familiar with our institution. We have worked together on a number of projects of mutual interest. He is respected within the hospital field and will bring a number of assets to Moses Cone Hospital. Mr. McCombs is married and has two children. He is joining Moses Cone Hospital on June 1. Greensboro and served two terms as a director of the Greensboro Area Chamber of Commerce. In addition to membership in several professional organizations, Mr. Chiles was recently elected to the Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. He is a former lecturer in Minority Lending and Auditing at the American Bankers Association School of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University. Mr. Chiles also served as Secretary of the Finance Committee of the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. Mr. Cone returns to the board, having served as a Moses Cone Hospital Trustee from 1974 until 1983. He is President of CE. Smith Company. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where he graduated with a double major in Mathematics and German. He also earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Harvard Business School. He served combat duty in Vietnam as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. A Greensboro native, Mr. Cone is an instrument rated pilot. He is a member of the Machinery Dealers National Association. He is a member of the Gate City Kiwanis, a former member of the Guilford College Board of Advisors and the Eastern Music Festival Board of Directors. Health Club Membership Half Price Moses Cone Hospital maintains a corporate membership at the Greensboro Rac- quetball and Health Club, enabling employees and medical staff members to join for half price. McCombs, formerly Administrator of Annie Penn Memorial Hospital in Reidsville, has been named Director of Support Services at The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. He succeeds Peter Kariher who recently left the hospital to manage a local group medical practice. Mr. McCombs has been the Administrator at Annie Penn since June, 1981. Prior to that time he was an Assistant Administrator in the Greenville Hospital System, Greenville, South Carolina. He holds a Master's Degree in Hospital and Health Administration from Duke University. The Raleigh native did his undergraduate work at Wake Forest University. Mr. McCombs' work at Annie Penn includes several projects similar to those that have recently taken place at Moses Cone.
