Dear Medical Staff Member,
Many exciting changes have happened at the Moses H. Cone Outpatient
Rehabilitation Center since we moved to the new location at 1904 N. Church Street this
past June. I would like to take a minute to briefly update you on a few of these.
In August, the Work Hardening Program started. This program places a strong
emphasis on fitness and conditioning, work simulation and education to prepare the injured
worker to return to work. The treatment team which consists of an occupational therapist,
physical therapist, vocational specialist and psychologist work together with the employer
and employee to return the worker to their previous job or assist them in developing
alternative plans for employment or retraining.
In October, the Day Rehabilitation Program accepted the first "full time" patient. This
outpatient program offers the same comprehensive rehabilitation services as the inpatient
unit, but for patients who no longer require hospitalization. Patients receive intensive
therapies throughout the day, but remain in the care of their families at other times.
Depending on need, patients may attend therapy every day for the full day, or come on a
part time basis.
As always, we continue to offer traditional therapy. Our therapists are capable of
treating a wide range of problems such as sports related injuries, neck and back injuries,
amputations, hand injuries, and voice disorders, among other problems. Our staff has also
grown since we've moved. We now have six physical therapists and assistants, three
occupational therapists, one speech pathologist, one technician, a part time social worker
and three office assistants. Shortly, we will have a vocational specialist and psychologist
join our treatment team as consultants.
If you have not yet had the opportunity to find out what we can offer, I invite you to
call us at (919) 271-4902 or stop by for a tour. I would like to call you in the near future to
arrange a time to answer any questions or discuss your ideas for ways we may better serve
your patients. Many thanks to those of you who have been so supportive of our programs
thus far.
Sincerely,
fC+ i-t-klfrcArftJS-.
