MOSES CONE HOSPITAL REVIEW Vol. VIM, No. 5 Moses Cone Hospital REVIEW March-May, 1974 ANNUAL TRUSTEES MEETING MAY 1 NEW MEMBERS ELECTED Mr. Cone, Sr. Mr. Vanstory Mr. Cone, Jr. Mr. Stephens The hospital's Board of Trustees' annual meeting was held on May 1. Mr. Benjamin Cone, Jr. and Mr. Louis C. Stephens, Jr. were elected as new members of the Board for terms of three years. Mr. Benjamin Cone, Sr. and Mr. C. M. Vanstory, Jr. formally retired as members of the Board. Mr. Cone, Sr. has served as a Trustee for the past twenty-seven years, fifteen of which were as President of the Board. Mr. Vanstory was the first Director of Moses Cone Hospital. He served in that capacity from 1947 to 1950, following which, he served as a trustee of the hospital until the present. During these years Mr. Vanstory was a member of the hospital's Executive Committee, Finance Committee and was instrumental in many aspects of the hospital's growth. Re-elected to the Board for three year terms were Mrs. Lewis S. Morris and Mr. Charles A. McLendon. The Trustees appointed Dr. Norman H. Garrett as Chief of Medicine for a three year term beginning July 1, 1974. Dr. Garrett succeeds Dr. Leonard J. Rabold who served as Chief of Medicine for the past six years. The Trustees also established a new department, that of Out-Patient Services. Dr. Richard A. Kelly, Jr. was named as full-time Chief of this department. See story page 1. DR. KELLY TO HEAD NEW SERVICE Dr. Richard A. Kelly, Jr. was named Chief of Out-Patient Services by the Board of Trustees at their annual meeting May 1. The Department of Out-Patient Services is a new one for the hos;- pital. It will encompass both emergency and out-patient clinic services. The department has been added as a result of the growth in the number of ambulatory patients the hospital cares for each year. Dr. Kelly has been an active member of the hospital's medical staff for the past 18 years. He received his M.D. from Duke University School of Medicine, 1954. He interned at Detroit Receiving Hospital and spent his residency at General Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky. He served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948. Dr. Kelly is a member of the American Academy of General Practice, the American Medical Association and the North Carolina State Medical Society. He is a past president of the Greensboro Academy of Medicne. The full-time appointment comes effective July 1. be- Dr. Kelly
