CD ROM IN YOUR HOSPITAL LIBRARY
WHAT is a CD-ROM?
A compact disc that has read only data capacity. CD-ROMs can store text, data and images
as well as sound.
HOW much can be stored on a CD-ROM?
More than 600 megabytes per disc, which is about 275,000 pages of text, 1,830 double density
floppy discs or thousands of images.
WHY?
Although they don't fully replace online searching, CD-ROMs will provide you with an easy
and inexpensive way to search and access materials in a matter of minutes. They are user friendly
and do not require extensive training to use by subject or keyword. Most of our CD-ROMs are
updated monthly.
WANT your literature search on a disk?
If you would prefer not to handle reams of computer paper when doing a search, bring in
a computer disc (5 1/4" or 3 1/2") and download the citations you need. The information is saved
as an ASCII file and can be edited with your word processing program.
CD-ROM database currently in the Hospital Library are:
' HealthPLAN - citations and abstracts covering administration and planning qf health
care facilities, marketing, financial management, quality assurance, personnel
management and other non-clinical aspects of health care delivery,
' Nursing & Allied Health CINAHL - indexes all major nursing and allied health periodical
literature as well as NLN and ANA publications. Coverage is from 1983 to the present.
' MEDLINE Express - covers the world's medical literature from 1987 to the present.
' HEALTH SOURCE - contains citations, abstracts and selected full articles and images
from 180 popular consumer health publications.
* BUSINESS PERIODICAL ABSTRACTS - provides abstracts to articles in key business
periodicals.
TAKE 2 FROGS AND CALL ME IN THE MORNING

Carolina MedicalJournal 1974 35:156-1) and are pre-CD-ROM.
To cure a headache, take a live frog and bind it to your head, and let it stay there till it dies.
For chapped lips, kiss the middle rail of a five-railed fence.
HOURS
8a-10p Mon-Fri; 9a-2p Sat; 2p-6p Sun.
