Greensboro Hospital VTFWPoinF^^ December 1988 Executive NOTES by Jim Brexler Executive Vice President During this 1988 holiday season with its joys and its stresses, we have an opportunity to reinforce our sense of family and community. At Greensboro Hospital we have the potential for giving support and understanding to each other as well as to patients, physicians, volunteers and visitors. Treating every individual with courtesy, dignity and respect is part of our commitment to excellence. We are a family of less than six months — mine, yours and becoming ours. It is at times difficult and at times exciting, but certainly never dull. It is the sense of working i Treating every individual with courtesy, dignity and respect is part of our commitment to ex- ^ cellence. J together as partners in a new enterprise that strengthens us individually and collectively. To each of you in your individual work place and within your family, from the Executive Office and from the Brexler family, I extend wishes for worship and for merriment; for giving and for receiving; for loving and for being loved; for reunions and for memories. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Child Care Center Site Dedication Planned All employees are invited to the special child care center site dedication to be held on Thursday, December 15 at 4:00 pm in the area next to the picnic shelter at Moses Cone Hospital. All kids are invited to attend, and there will be special giveaways for all who come. The announcement of the site selection for the center was made on November 17th following a careful selection process with developers. The center will be located in the area south of the employee parking lot which is currently occupied by the Wheelchair Sports Course, picnic shelter and volleyball courts at Moses Cone Hospital. Plans are being made for the relocation of these facilities. The new child care center will include a 9,800 square foot building and a 20,000 square foot play area. A driveway will circle in front of the center for safe pick-up and delivery of children. It is anticipated that the center will be licensed for 200 children. They will be accepted to the center on a first-come, first-serve basis. Child care at the center will be available to any child from infancy through pre-kindergarten whose parent is an employee of Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro Hospital, Hospice at Greensboro, Home Care of Central Carolina, Greensboro Diagnostic Center or Health Equipment Services of Central Carolina. The anticipated opening of the child care center is August 1, 1989. It will operate from 6:00 am until 12:00 midnight, 365 days of the year. A Child Care Center Task Force will be working with a consulting firm that specializes in "campus" child care centers to establish detailed programming for the center. The Task Force includes representatives from Administration, Human Resources, Employee Council, the Auxiliary, original employee child care task force members, and Dr. Dale Farran who is a child development specialist at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. "This child care center is going to provide the opportunity to enrich a child's development and growth during the sensitive pre-school years," says Peter Kariher, Vice President of Health Services. "We want parents to feel good about bringing their child to the Moses Cone Hospital child care center, where they can learn and grow in a loving, caring environment." The center is being designed to achieve a "Double A" state licensing status which will impact staffing ratios as well as the quality of the facility. Plans call for staffing ratios to clearly exceed the minimum standards of state licensing, Kariher says. If you would like more information about the child care center, or would like to place your child's name on a waiting list, please call Peter Kariher at extension 3695.
