Greensboro Hospital VTFWPOint September 1988 Executive NOTES by Jim Brexler Executive Vice President During the past month, most of ou r energies have been focused on the development of the FY '89 budget. We are now in the final stages of completing the budget process, and I would like to thank each of you for your time and cooperation. The Board of Trustees will meet in mid- September to make a final decision on the proposed budget figures. The Women's and Infant's Planning Team, chaired by Dr. Robert Wein and comprised of Dennis Barry, LaVonne Beach and myself, along with medical staff and other members of hospital management, is moving ahead with development plans for our new facility. A nationally recognized consulting group specializing in women's health care, Dearing and Associates of Spokane, Washington, has been hired to assist us in the process. To date, the following preliminary planning has been completed: Site visits have been made to St. Luke's Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota; St. Mary's Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota; Women and Children's Hospital in Charleston, West Virginia; Humana Women's Hospital of South Texas in San Antonio and the Women's Hospital of Texas in Houston. Members of the Planning Team visited these women's and infants'specialty facilities to talk with staff and gain insight into which services should be offered at our new facility. The consulting firm, in conjunction with the Planning Team, has surveyed women in Greensboro to gain a greater appreciation for the types of services they would like to see offered. The planning process will be completed in mid-October and renovation work will begin following approval of our Certificate of Need Application, expected in early 1989. The In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) program that has been located at Moses Cone Hospital will be re-locating to Greensboro Hospital shortly. The service will be located in an area adjacent to the Recovery Room, and we expect to perform a number of procedures in September. This relocation process will help us position the IVF program for the future as we strive to provide a continuum of women's health care in our facility. Once again, thank you for the time and effort you are devoting to moving Greensboro Hospital into the future. See you at the picnic in Jamestown on September 18th! Board of Trustees Announces Expansions Three new Board of Trustees members have been added. Two of the new members represent the first phase in a three year project to increase the number of Board positions from 15 to 21 members.Theothernew member will fill a position vacated in July as the result of a retirement from the Board. "We are expanding the Board to reflect the growth we are experiencing as a Hospital. We are taking on a new hospital which will be converted to a women's and infants' specialty hospital as well as planning to add an extended care facility and a child care facility. As we grow and add more responsibility, we need more Trustees to look over these areas," said William L Hemphill, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. "The complexity of our operation calls for Board members with special skills. We are picking Board members who have the special skills and knowledge to provide valuable input for this new, emerging facility," Hemphill continued. George W.
