3
*GSAFE is writing this grant with several organizations. It is a collaborative effort and GSAFE is serving as the umbrella organization for the project.
We are bringing the Respect for All Project with Academy Award winning documentary filmmaker, Debra Chasnoff to Greensboro for two days of screenings of her Respect for All Project films and workshops. Her videos are among those most used in teaching LGBT issues in education. These videos include It’s Elementary, It’s Still Elementary (just released), That’s a Family, Let’s Get Real and a new video that will be released shortly before her visit.
The date for her visit is Feb 19 and 20, 2009. One of these days is a half teacher work day and the other is a full teacher workday for Guilford County Schools. We are working toward Debra doing a presentation with Guilford County Schools. In addition, all of our collaborating organizations will participate with the screenings. Our confirmed collaborators for the project are:
• GSAFE (Gay-Straight Advocates for Education) (contact: Annette Green and Gary Palmer)
• New Garden Friends School (contact: Pattie Midgett and Judy Pelarin)
• Guilford College Multicultural Education Department (contact: Jorge Zeballos)
• Guilford College Education Studies Department (contact: Anna Oerther)
• PFLAG Greensboro (contact: Linda Stroupe)
• North Carolina A&T State University Multicultural Student Center (contact: Maria Teresa Palmer)
• NCCJ Triad (contact: Susan Feit)
• UNC Greensboro Office of Multicultural Affairs (contact: Jeffrey Coleman)
• UNC Greensboro Women's and Gender Studies Program (contact: Kathy Jamieson)
• UNC Greensboro School of Education, Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations (contact: Kathe Latham)
Here is the basic schedule we hope to follow:
• Wednesday evening - "That's a Family" at NC A&T State University.
• Thursday morning- "It's Still Elementary" at UNCG, followed by reception at their Multicultural Center
• Thursday afternoon - "Let's Get Real" for Middle School teachers
• Thursday evening - local Premiere screening of "Straightlaced" at Guilford College Dana Auditorium
• Friday morning - teacher development presentation at New Garden Friends School The evening programs will be open to the public. We hope that the Thursday morning program at UNCG will draw education students from several colleges. We still need a location on campus for that program. We also hope to include film making students at some events. We hope Thursday afternoon will be worked out cooperatively with NCCJ and Middle Schools that are involved with the "In the Middle" (an anti bullying program for Middle Schools). Many details still need to be worked out.

B. If Grantseeker were to receive a Guilford Green Foundation grant for the particular initiative, project or activity described in (IV.A) above, please describe the method of implementation, whether staffing will be involved, and the number and type of volunteers, if any, who will support implementation.
This is a collaborative effort that has already involved many people from different organizations. We will have to pay some personnel for security and technical assistance. We cannot anticipate the total number of volunteers needed. So far there have been about 15 people involved in the planning.

The Respect for All Project offers knowledge about a comprehensive set of resources for educators and youth-service providers, including award-winning documentary films, high-quality curriculum guides and a comprehensive workshop series for professionals and community members. We would see educators learning the issues and learning how to utilize these tools in their classrooms.
