Dear Mr. Curtis:
I am writing to provide you with information concerning the status of the Neo-
Black Society matter.
The Committee on the Classification of Organizations is now in the process of
conducting a hearing with the officers of the Society on the constitutional
statement of aims and membership of the Neo-Black Society. The Constitution
under review contains this statement of aims:
1. To promote understanding and a sense of unity.
2. To encourage this University toward a greater awareness and
appreciation of the culture and achievements of Black people.
3. To support and assist in any way the communities of Greensboro.
The statement on membership reflects the new requirements of the Student
Government Association regarding membership in all Type II Organizations,
a requirement willingly accepted and endorsed by the Neo-Black Society
which affirms "membership and meetings shall be open to and shall welcome
all undergraduate students without regard to race, religion, color, creed,
national origin, or sex. "
It is my understanding from Miss Cheryl Sosnik, the Vice President of the
Student Government Association, that the Senate anticipates action on the
recommendations of the Committee on the Classification of Organizations by
October 2, 1973.
