SAY A/0 TO KLAN/NAZI GOVERNMENT CRIMES People of Greensboro march in protest of the "not guilty" verdict. Sponsored by: People United Against Government Repression and the Klan and Nazis The National Lawyers Guild N.C. Chapter Those United to Fight Fascism DEMAND FEDERAL CHARGES Nearly two years after the November 3, 1979 mur- dersof five anti-klan demonstrators in Greensboro, N.C. bytheklan and nazis, more and more people are aware of theshocking role that the government played in the murders.Bythesummer of 1980 it had been revealed that Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agent Bernard Butkovich and former FBI informer and then Greensboro police informer Edward Dawson had played aleading role in the planning, instigation and carrying out of the murders. Then on November 17,1980, the six klan and nazis on trial for murder were found "not guilty"; a verdict that shocked the nation; a verdict that gave the "green light" to right wing attacks on all Blacks, oppressed nationalities and progressive people across the country; but a verdict that also started tremendous resistance and determination to get the bottom of the Greensboro murders. In July of '81 former U.S. Attorney H.M. Michaux revealed that he had urged the Justice Department to bring federal charges against those responsible for the murders of the anti-klan demonstrators. Yet the Justice Department still has made no decision to prosecute. Right-wing violence is on the rise as we have seen in Chattanooga, Mobile, San Jose and Meridan, Connecticutt. We cannot rest easy until justice is done in N.C. and elsewhere. Therefore, N.C. PEOPLE UNITED, N.C. NATIONAL LAWYERS GUILD and the Charlotte chapter of Those United to Fight Fascism are calling on you to read this pamphlet, sign the petition or the letter, take it to your friends, neighbors, to church and where you work. Let the Justice Department know that we will not rest until all of those responsible for the murders in Greensboro are prosecuted!!!!!! WHAT IS THE NATIONAL SITUATION? Today we are faced with an economy that is on the rocks. Reagan is slashing the budget and taking food away from children and the elderly. Klan/nazi/government agent attacks are on the rise. War preparations are being stepped up. Hundreds of thousands of workers have been laid off and there is increasing disregard for safety and health in the workplace. Yet at the same time we see tremendous resistance on the part of the American people —from Feb. 2, 1980, when 7000 marched in Greensboro to protest the murders, to 100,000 marching in Washington. D.C. to support the people of El Salvador and say no" to repression at home.

Description | This flyer presents the complicated evidence and time line of court cases related to the murder of five Communist Workers Party members at the Death to the Klan march in Greensboro, North Carolina, on November 3, 1979. Six Ku Klux Klan members or affiliates who were allegedly involved with the murders were tried and acquitted in 1981. The flyer champions support for a federal grand jury to investigate the original trial as a violation of civil rights. The flyer outlines what happened at the original march, information about the five individuals who were killed, the involvement of local police and federal agents, and a related trial held in Asheville, North Carolina, in 1981. The flyer was sponsored by several organizations including People United, The North Carolina Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, and Those United to Fight Fascism. |
