Dear Chancellor Singletary:
With further reference to your request that the Apple
House Restaurant, 332 Tate Street, Greensboro,North
Carolina, serve the negro students attending Woman's
College of the University of North Carolina.
This Restaurant is one of a chain of four private owned
Restaurants in Greensborm. If it were only one restaurant
involved and the service could be confined only to the
negro students at Woman's College, we possibly could
consider It. However, these students have friends at
A & T College and Bennett College as well as local tc?ras-
people who would expect to be served, and It Is for this
reason and to protect our other restaurants it is
necessary for us to have one policy governing all of cur
restaurants. It is our policy not to serve negrqs in any
of cur restaurants.
We greatly appreciate the patronage of the Faculty and
Students at Woman's College and" want to continue to serve
them In the best way possible.
