Carol Purey
President, SGA
Woman's College
Dear Carol:
Throughout this previous election campaign, you and
many of the other candidates urged increased participation
from the student body in SGA affairs. We realize that next
year you will have great responsibility in molding future
policies of this student association. We believe you to be
sincere in your efforts to improve student relations. Therefore, we urge you^consider the following matter.-You are
probably well aware of the fact that the Cinema Theater and
several dining establishments located at "The Corner" remain
segregated. Since "The Corner" is considered on campus and
is supported mainly by students of the Woman's College, we
feel that this situation can be alleviated by the same students.
Of course, we realize that the SGA cannot force integration ^
of these establishments, but we do feel that through SGA, the
school policy..- can be defined.
Economic boycotts to achieve integration have been very
successful in the past few years. We urge a student boycott
of segregated establishments as the last alternative. However,
since Woman's College is integrated and since more Negro
students will be admitted in the future, the solving of this
problem is mandatory. We urge that this problem be considered.
Thank you very much.
