lam asking the persons to whom this rn sjiiifliiaartain is addressed
to serve as aa Ad hoc Committee on University Racial Policies. I tan
requesting that the Committee review the history of this Institution with
respect to the education of racial minorities, especially referring to the
record of Negro registration here, our practice ©oacemiof? housing of
minority students, the intellectual and social cli-nate for such people,
our employment policies, and the relationship of the curriculum 10 racial
matters. Attention should be given to euch programs as Upward Bound
and Project Head Start.
If the Committee concludes that there are meters related to
University Racial Policies to which the Administration, Faculty, and
student* should address the selves, I would be glad to receive your
recommendations.
Another committee lias given some attention to the need for new
academic offerings having a hearing on this subject. ! suggest that E r.
Elaine Burgess as Chair 'nan of the ad hoc committee talk with Dean
Mereb E. M—iaaaa and Dean Robert Miller with respect to the work of
that group.
Unless I hear fro.r, you to the contrary. I shall assume your
