Description |
This February 4, 1990, article from the Greensboro News & Record was written by Allen Johnson III, as a personal remembrance of his childhood in segregated Greensboro and of changes in recent years. Johnson discusses his parents' reaction to the 1960 Greensboro sit-ins, his school years and friends who bragged of being able to "pass" for white, and the rocks thrown at him when he walked through white neighborhoods. He recalls his later work on newspapers in the area, and makes the point that the civil rights movement is an ongoing process, not "something that was."
This article was clipped and saved in a scrapbook by Clarence "Curly" Harris, manager of the Greensboro Woolworth store at the time of the 1960 sit-ins. |
