The Committee to Avenge the Communist Workers Party 5 was founded in response to the November 3, 1979 Death to the Klan march that took place in Greensboro and left five of the protesters dead. The Communist Workers Party (formerly the Workers Viewpoint Organization) organized the march. The event is also known as the Greensboro Massacre.
