As the 1950s came to a close, there was already a foundation of international student involvement at Guilford College which can again be seen in the 1959 yearbook, The Quaker. Heea Hadler from Indonesia was one such student and was the vice chairman of the Student Affairs Board, pictured in the group's photo wearing traditional dress. A two-page spread shows an African American band playing at a college dance, while a photograph from the 1959 Talent Show depicts "Bob Marsh, Guilford's own black-faced comedian..."
