The 1969 Guilford College yearbook, The Quaker, highlights the involvement of African American students, as well as the many protests in which students were involved. From press conferences, to participating in marches for freedom of speech for soldiers at UNC Chapel Hill, to continued efforts to break down barriers between Guilford's main and downtown campuses, and continued integration of the college's sports teams and organizations, the students of Guilford College were active in the community during the 1969 school year. Also notable was the establishment of Brothers and Sisters in Blackness (BASIB), a student organization formed to make white students more aware of their black peers and their culture.
