"We were on a 10-minute break from (Lysistrata) rehearsal in (the Brown building) and I ran over to get a bottle of water from my office in Taylor. I went into the common space and passed a young man coming out. As a grad student I know all of the students and faculty--everybody knows everybody in· theater-and I didn't recognize him," Lydick said. That non-theater student was LILI JOHNSON/THE CAROLINIAN ·Taylor Theatre, broken into March 15. All stolen material was found in working condition. UNCG receives 6 million dollar donation Donation given anonymous/>" largest in school history Luke Mcintyre Editor-in-Chief UNCG has received six million dollars in an "unexpected" anonymous donation, the largest donation in the UNCG's history, the university announced last week The donation was given with the conditions that out of the six million dollars, five million of it is reseved for financial aid and one million is put aside for professorships. The five million allotted for financial aid is good news for the more than 60 percent of UNCG students who receive some form of financial aid, especially in the wake of last week's announcement that Governor Perdue's recession- minded 2009-2010 budget cuts UNG-system funding by $167.9 million. "As economic forecasts are increasingly stormy, this gift for scholarships and faculty development will be an extraordinary investment in UNCG's future," said Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Patricia W. Stewart. "It is impossible to calculate the benefits that will result." · . The one milljon dollars given for professorships actually represents much more money than that, since these funds will be matched in part by the C.D. Twenty-sevenyear- old Brandon Alan Duncan was soon to be arrested and c;harged with trespassing, carrying a concealed weapon, breaking and entering the Taylor Theatre, and larceny after breaking and entering, but neither he nor Lydick knew tha~ yet. · "In the office we had this huge box with props and on top of the box was a huge blanket, and that's what he walking out with, so I knew I didn't kllow him and he was walking out with something that belonged to me," said Lydick "(Duncan) passed me and kept walking down the hallway and I confronted him and asked where he was going. He-continued to walk and said he was going to rehearsal. I asked rehearsal for what, he said a show. I asked· who was the director and he said 'Mr. Jo.nes.' We don't have a Mr. Jones .... I realized we were being robbed." Lydick then told her stage manager, Sam Mackey, who called Campus Police. Michael Vuncannon, a Greensboro police officer, heard the call and recognized the description of the subject at Walker Avenue and Springdale Court. When Vuncannon approached Duncan, he dropped the backpack he was carrying and ran. Vuncannon chased him on foot for two blocks before catching him at 613 Joyner Street Officer Jessica Hudson of · UNCG's Campus Police arrested , Duncan and filed the report When apprehended, Duncan is charged with having stolen two . computer monitors; keyboards and mice, a pair of headphones, a power supply and a soundboard. He was also charged with resist, delay and obstruct for running away from the police officer. All stolen material was returned to the theater undamaged. "Lydick said Campus Police had few suggestions for how to prevent an incident like this from happening again.
