To the
President

In the
music
work
of the
past
year
I
have
felt
all
along
that as a
whole
the
student
body
has not been
quite
up
to that of
last
year
in
ability
.
While
perhaps
there are as
many
who
stand
as
high
as those of
last
year
, and
no
more
failures
, the
average
student
has not
proved
as
receptive
or as
energetic
as
last
year
.
I
find
this
fact
has
troubled
the
teachers
of
other
departments
.
In the
event
of a
five-year
course
of
study
,
I
should
like
to have an
extra
year’s
work
which
might
be
optional
in
some
courses
, but
one
recitation
a
week
, not
specially
for the
purpose
of
lengthening
the
music
course
, but to
keep
students
in
practice
up
to as
near
the
end
of the
course
as
possible
.
