Bertha
Lee
then
encouraged
the
members
to "
try
to
influence
" the
new
students
at the
school
to
join
the
Society
. The
first
minutes
are
signed
by
Secretary
Hattie
G
.
Garvin
. The
next
meeting
minutes
was for
October
12
,
1893
. The
members
discussed
what to
name
the
Society
(as
it
was
currently
nicknamed
the "
G
"
Society)
and
came
up
with
either
"The
McIver
Alderman
" or "The
Tiley.
" They
asked
the
school
President
Charles
D
.
McIver
for his
opinion
. The
members
decided
on "The
McIver
Alderman
" then
assigned
some
members
to
bring
President
McIver
to the
group
so
they
could
inform
him of their
decision
.
McIver
was
surprised
and then
told
them that a
notice
about
the
Society
would be
included
to be
read
aloud
at the
Chapel's
opening
exercise
.
