J 1111....11111 lhe mUSIC 106--...... September 22, 1983 MEM::JRANDUM TO: Woodrow McDougald, Chairman University Station Administrative ~oard FRCM: David Alexander, General Manager WUAG RE: Request for Allocation of Funds . . On May 2, 1980, a report was filed with Chancellor Wm. Moran advising him on operations of radio station WUAG~ In the report, guidelines were given as to what measures the administration could take to insure the upgrading of WUAG in its educational and public service obligations to the university and surrounding community. In its three year period approved by the Chancellor, the University Station Administrative Board has fulfilled all but one of its obligations, the last being partially realized this year. This obligation is Subsection "B" of the report to the Chancellor stating that "The Department of Communications/Theatre will provide suitable housing for the station as new facilities permit. Funding of station operations would be from University sources· including an appropriate portion of the current Media Board fee and from such grants and sponsorships as are available to stations operating as educational training facilities." Subsection "B" goes on to state that the University will provide "Basic support for the station in housing, utilities, and physical plant operations." For two years, WUAG has greatfully acknowledged the University Media Board's allocations of 16 percent of their annual budget towards our operating budget. These funds will, however, no longer exist for the station after the three ·~year period ends :in , the spring of 19 8 5. At that time, WUAG will have to search for funds simply to operate the radio station in the most basic ways. For this reason, it is important that WUAG seek funding for Taylor facility while there is still financial suppor~ ' ava~able. Due to .cutbacks in departmental budgets, adequate renovating and equiping of our new facilities can not be completed without funding sources, preferrably within the University community. In the memorandum authorizing the implementation of the University Station Administrative Board, dated March 29, 1982, Chancellor Moran stated, ·"The Department will also seek to provide suitable housing for the station as new facilities rnay .permit." Under the allocations provided ·by the University Media Board-, WUAG can meet part of the equipment needs of the new facilities; however, to provide Box 28, Elliott Center, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Greensboro, NC 27412-5001, (919)379-5470 -----'
