Dearest Folks,
It's to[o] hot to sleep this morn so I'm writing a few letters.
Got my 2nd tetanus shot and my arm is of course sore. Kay was sick with chills and sweating from her's. She gets sick on every shot she takes.
Yesterday we had 4 Germans p.w. [prisoners of war] here. They were under marine guard. Why here we don't know. One was about Lindley's age and the others were older. The young boys had on ordinary civvy [civilian] clothes. The others had heavy work shoes and blue work trousers on. One man had on the green German officer's coat with more medals on it. Probably here for treatment. Not super men by a long shot.
From my letter I got from Germany, Sonny writes that Germany is more advanced than France. The people dress well and stay clean and other than the wreckage you'd never know a war was or had been.
Still have those ""cigs"" Dad. Well I sure laughed when I sent those Father's Day cards a week early. I sent Mr. Twilley and Mary Belle Sympathy cards.
Am going out soon for some breakfast and shop for a few things. Fri. is pay day and I get $75. That makes $194 they have given me.
Wed. 2 patients from different wards asked me if I'd been in the service at least 12 or 18 months.""One month"" I said.
Neither believed me. They said I did things and ans[wered] questions like a veteran. I sure feel good to think I'd made such a good impression on some people. One of the men is a mason. And because Dad is one to[o], he thinks I'm tops. The masons and their families rate ace high with him.
Guess this is all the latest dope. Hope all are well.
Your loving daughter, Doretta
P.S. G.M. Lentz wrote me a nice letter Wed. Wants me to come and see her soon.
