Dearest Mother and Daddy,"" I've just come back from church, and since the ward is quiet thought I would try to write you. Of course anything might happen that I would have to stop but until that time, I'll just keep right on writing.
We had our church services in an empty ward, and we sit on crude benches, but I guess it doesn't matter where you worship as long as you do worship. So I've been to church on the open decks of the ships, sitting right on the deck, to tents, and hospital wards. But it's good to be able to go to church.
I'm off this afternoon at 2:00 and Jay and I are going swimming out at his place. Its pretty clean in that section of the beach.
Friday night Jay and I went to see the ""This Is The Army"" Show. It was very good. It was the original stage version, and you should have seen the fellows dressed up as girls. Some of them were pretty good. Irving Berlin was there in person. He sang ""White Christmas"" and several other songs. I really enjoyed it.
To-day I got two more of my letters back that I had written to Louis at Ft. Ord.
I got your letter yesterday that was written March 6th. Thanks for the stamps, and every now and then you can send me a book of air mail stamps. They keep better in this damp weather. Practically all of my envelopes are stuck. But if I leave them out at night the dampness opens them." Our little tent girl is standing here in the tent ironing our clothes. She never lets us leave any dirty clothes around. It's really wonderful the way she looks after us. When she comes into the tent, she leaves her shoes outside the door and come[s] in barefooted. These people certainly have odd customs.
Well, I guess there isn't much other news for this time. I'm feeling fine, but I think I'm losing some weight. But everyone does over here.
So until next time, take care of yourselves. I'll write again soon.
