Dear Eunice We had a very impressive graduation of the 2nd class ceremony's today. All the classes marched in review except us and we had to be guards. All us rookies had to wear our zoot suits and guard the planes and field and keep the civilians off the Flight area. I was lucky to be station [sic] near the grandstand so got a good look at everything.
The girls put on a good show and looked grand in there [sic] uniforms. The wings the grads got are sure swell. Boy I wish that was all behind me. It gives you the jitters to think of it all ahead of you wondering if you'll really make the grade or if you might get washed out. Gives you little Butterflys [sic] sometimes.
Our rookie class hasn't done anything for two days. We git [sic] ambitious in the morning and scrub our Bay, and you should see it now, we had a sand storm this afternoon. I had to wipe the desk before I could write. All we do other times is eat and drink coc's [sic] all day. The graduation has sort-of upset things, but tomorrow we really start. We have to be on the flight line at 8:00 A.M. (Oh yes we take showers three times a day) - We sure are a slopy [sic] looking bunch too, they had nothing but 40's in zoot suit sizes. We have one little gal 5' tall in a 40' zoot suit. It really is a riot sometimes in this Bay, the six of us cut up a little now and then, but it is all so new to most of them.
The shower is like grand Central Station most of the time. At least we get to dress for dinner. Then we have to be in our Bay's at 8:00 P.M. and lights out at 10:00 P.M. We didn't have our first mess call till 8:30 this morning so we all just laughed and reverlli [sic] and turned over and went to sleep. Tomorrow a different story. So I may not be able to write for a couple of days. But you have nothing to do so you write to me O.K.
