Research Division Program of Work p% Goal The major objective of the Research Division has been to become the reliable source of statistical information on Greensboro. Cost of Living As the southeastern regional headquarters for the American Chamber of Commerce Researchers Association cost of living project, the Division will continue to be responsible for receiving each participating city's report and after checking all data will submit these reports to the national headquarters for data processing. The Division will collect the specified information related to Greensboro's cost of living for this quarterly report. Population Committee The Committee will continue its efforts to establish a central office to collect, keep, and report current and projected population data. As documents become available related to the 1970 Census, reports concerning the area's school, transportation, housing, population and social characteristics will be published. The Committee will work jointly with planning agencies and chambers of commerce in the Triad area to prepare and publish a brochure on the area's 1970 population and housing characteristics by census tract. Most of the detailed population and housing characteristics from the 1970 Census by census tract are not being published in written reports as was previously done by the Bureau of Census. Computer tapes must be purchased from the Census Bureau and a computer program written in order to obtain this data. The Committee will work with all private and public agencies interested in obtaining this data so that no duplication of effort will be incurred and so that the Chamber can obtain this information as inexpensively as possible. Publications "The Apartment Directory of Greensboro" will be updated and the format will remain the same. It will sell for 750. "Business Trends" will continue to be published bimonthly with a commentary prepared by the Barometer Review Committee. The quarterly reviews will include graphs depicting statistics for seven growth characteristics, comparing 1970 with 1971. "The Carolina's Major Market" will be updated and reprinted to sell for $1.00. It details statistical data on the Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area. "Directory of Firms Employing 100 or More in Greensboro" will be updated and reprinted to sell for $1.00. "Directory of Publications" will be updated and mailed to the Chamber membership. "Greensboro's Growing Market," which depicts Greensboro's last ten years of growth with graphs and tables as well as a commentary on major industrial and commercial expansions, will be updated. "Here's Greensboro," a general information brochure, will be updated as new data are available. There will be a charge of 250 per copy on orders of 10 or more copies. (Continued Other Side] Greensboro business ^ /''fyANUARY 1971 COMPUTER CENTERS GREENSBORO'S GROWING INDUSTRY 1 ^^^^^^^ A monograph describing some of Greensboro's advantages as a center for electronic data processing headquarters has just been published by the Chamber's Research Division. Pittman, points out the publication includes a directory of 41 firms with computers located at their Greensboro offices. This will be an invaluable tool to individuals seeking employment in the data processing field. Also appraised are Triad Area educational opportunities in data processing and computer programming, the community of interest in Greensboro within this industry, and office salary trends. The price of the 31 page brochure is $1.50.
